57th Speleological Symposium in Lewin Kłodzki, 12-15 October 2023.

The lecture session featured Dr. Magdalena Sudoł-Procyk, who delivered a paper on human activity in the caves of the southern part of the Częstochowa Upland in prehistory, prepared in cooperation with Dr. K. Adamczak and M. Malak, M.A. Based on archaeological and natural finds, the authors demonstrated the presence of humans in the caves of this region in almost all periods, from the Paleolithic to the pre-Roman period, paying attention to various ways of using them. One of the aspects that attracted people to this region was the presence of outcrops of silica raw materials, which, among others, confirms the place of extraction and preliminary processing of chocolate flint in Poręba Dzierżna 24, and the caves themselves were probably treated by prehistoric miners as a point of refuge.

In addition to the lecture session, there was also a field session in the Table Mountains and the caves of the Eastern Sudetes (Cave on the Wall and Solna Jama Cave).

This year's Symposium was organized by the Speleological Section of the Polish Society of Naturalists. Copernicus University in Krakow, Institute of Geological Sciences of the University of Wrocław, Institute of Geography and Regional Development of the University of Wrocław, Faculty of Biological Sciences of the University of Wrocław, Institute of Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow, Institute of Geological Sciences of the Jagiellonian University and Institute of Geology of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.
